Calbiochem-Behring was a prominent life sciences and diagnostics company formed in 1977 through the merger of Calbiochem and the Behring diagnostics operations of Hoechst AG. Based in La Jolla, California, the company became a leading global supplier of high-purity biochemicals, reagents, and clinical diagnostic kits. Its product portfolio was essential for research in signal transduction, apoptosis, and proteomics, featuring a wide array of specialized inhibitors and enzymes. The company also provided standardized reagents for immunology and protein chemistry that were widely used in clinical laboratories. Following several corporate acquisitions and reorganizations, the Calbiochem brand was integrated into Merck KGaA (operating as MilliporeSigma), while the Behring diagnostics division eventually became part of Siemens Healthineers.
