Caleb Pharmaceuticals was a specialty pharmaceutical company based in Taiwan that focused on the development and manufacturing of transdermal drug delivery systems (TDDS). The company was best known for its expertise in complex topical formulations, specifically its development of a generic version of the Lidoderm (lidocaine 5%) patch used for treating post-herpetic neuralgia. In 2004, Caleb was acquired by Watson Pharmaceuticals (now part of Teva Pharmaceuticals) for approximately $140 million, a move that secured Watson's manufacturing capacity and expanded its pain management portfolio. Today, the former Caleb facility in Hsinchu continues to serve as a key manufacturing site for Teva's transdermal products. The acquisition was a landmark deal for the Taiwanese biotech sector, demonstrating the global competitiveness of its specialty drug development capabilities.
