Calesca Pharmaceuticals was a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of inhaled antibiotics for orphan lung diseases. The company's lead product candidate, AeroVanc, was a proprietary dry powder formulation of vancomycin intended for the treatment of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) lung infections in patients with cystic fibrosis. By utilizing a localized delivery method, Calesca aimed to provide high concentrations of the antibiotic directly to the site of infection while reducing the risk of systemic side effects associated with intravenous administration.
