Company intelligence / Profile preview
Calporta Therapeutics is a biotechnology company specializing in the development of small molecule agonists for the Transient Receptor Potential Mucolipin 1 (TRPML1) ion channel. TRPML1 is a key regulator of lysosomal trafficking and function, making it a high-potential target for treating lysosomal storage diseases and neurodegenerative conditions like Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. The company was incubated within COI Pharmaceuticals as part of a collaboration between Avalon Ventures and GSK. In November 2019, Calporta was acquired by Merck (known as MSD outside the U.S. and Canada) to enhance its neuroscience discovery pipeline. The acquisition was valued at up to $576 million, including upfront and milestone payments.
