Cambridge BioStability was a UK-based biotechnology company dedicated to the development of heat-stable vaccines that do not require refrigeration. The company's core technology involved a process of vitrification, where vaccines were embedded in microscopic "sugar glass" spheres made of trehalose to maintain their potency at ambient temperatures. This innovation aimed to solve the "cold chain" challenge, which is a major logistical hurdle for vaccine distribution in developing countries. Their primary product candidate was a stable liquid Hepatitis B vaccine that underwent clinical evaluation. Despite the potential of its platform and support from organizations like the Wellcome Trust, the company entered administration in 2009.
