Cambridge Combinatorial was a leading drug discovery company specializing in the design and synthesis of chemical libraries using advanced combinatorial chemistry techniques. Founded in 1997 as a spin-out from the University of Cambridge, the company provided high-throughput chemistry services and proprietary chemical collections to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Its core expertise lay in accelerating the lead optimization process through automated synthesis and purification. In 2000, the company was acquired by Millennium Pharmaceuticals for approximately $53 million to bolster Millennium's small molecule drug discovery capabilities. The acquisition integrated Cambridge Combinatorial's chemistry platform into Millennium's broader drug development pipeline, eventually becoming part of Takeda's research infrastructure.
