Canadian Bio Med Systems Inc. (CBMS) was a Montreal-based biotechnology company focused on developing novel therapies for ophthalmic diseases, particularly wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and glaucoma. As a subsidiary of ICBS Ltd., the company collaborated with Ocular Therapeutics Inc. to advance its lead candidate, LD22-4, a small protein inhibitor of fibroblast migration designed to suppress angiogenesis. LD22-4 is an N-terminal fragment of 24-kDa FGF2 that specifically targets Neuropilin 1 to prevent the proliferation of blood vessels in the retina. CBMS also worked on a monoclonal antibody-based treatment for glaucoma aimed at reducing intraocular pressure through a novel mechanism of action. The company's pipeline was supported by research from academic institutions including the University of Arizona and The Scripps Research Institute. Despite early preclinical progress and the formation of a medical advisory board with prominent ophthalmologists, the company appears to have become inactive after 2010.
