Canadian Medical Protective Association

The Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) is a non-profit, mutual defense organization that provides medical-legal advice, legal representation, and liability protection to the majority of physicians in Canada. Founded in 1901, the CMPA supports the Canadian healthcare system by assisting doctors in managing medical-legal risks and providing compensation to patients proven to have been harmed by negligent medical care. The association also conducts extensive research and provides educational resources to enhance patient safety and reduce healthcare-related harm. It operates as a member-based organization funded primarily by physician dues and is governed by an elected council of doctors.
