CanBiocin

CanBiocin is a private Canadian animal-health and microbiome company developing and manufacturing species-specific probiotic and synbiotic products for companion animals and livestock. Founded in 1998 as a University of Alberta spin-off, the company originally commercialized Micocin, a probiotic metabolite used to inhibit Listeria monocytogenes in processed meats and with applications in livestock feed. Its current business focuses on discovery, validation, formulation, and contract manufacturing of prebiotic, probiotic, and postbiotic combinations, supported by in-house fermentation, spray drying, freeze drying, and microencapsulation capabilities. CanBiocin sells primarily to pet food, feed, supplement, and wellness brands rather than marketing a human therapeutic drug pipeline. The company expanded into the U.S. market through its 2020 acquisition of Pure Cultures and later received a strategic investment from Lesaffre in 2025 to broaden companion-animal care offerings globally.
