Cancer Populomix Institute

The Cancer Populomix Institute (CPxI) was a Canadian non-profit research organization and biotechnology consortium established in 2006 in Fredericton, New Brunswick. It was formed as a strategic collaboration between the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), the Atlantic Cancer Research Institute (ACRI), and several regional universities, including the University of New Brunswick and Dalhousie University. The institute focused on "populomix," a multidisciplinary approach that combines population health data with molecular "omics" technologies to identify biomarkers for the early detection and prevention of cancer. Its research programs primarily targeted the development of high-accuracy diagnostic tools for prostate, breast, and colon cancers using DNA microarray technology. While the institute was a key driver of the Atlantic Canadian life sciences cluster in the late 2000s, it is no longer active as a standalone entity.
