CannaLean Biotechs is conducting a Phase 2a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled multicenter clinical trial in up to 60 patients with hyperlipidemia to evaluate safety, tolerability, and lipid-lowering efficacy of a proprietary oral formulation combining synthetic cannabidiol (CBD) with chitosan; a second Phase 2a trial in hypertriglyceridemia was planned in 2022.[3][1] Preclinical in vivo studies in guinea pig and rat models showed significant reductions in cholesterol, triglycerides, and cholesterol/HDL and triglycerides/HDL ratios with the CBD–chitosan formulation versus controls and single agents, supporting further clinical development.[2][5]
