Canon Staar

Canon Staar was a joint venture established in 1988 between STAAR Surgical, Canon Inc., and Canon Marketing Japan to develop and manufacture ophthalmic products in Japan. The company specialized in the production of preloaded injector systems for intraocular lenses (IOLs) used in cataract surgery, introducing the world's first preloaded injector in 2003. In 2008, STAAR Surgical acquired the remaining 50% stake from the Canon companies for approximately $10.8 million in cash and stock, subsequently renaming the entity STAAR Japan. Today, the business operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of STAAR Surgical, serving as a critical hub for manufacturing, distribution, and regulatory affairs in the Japanese and broader Asian ophthalmic markets.
