Capsant Neurosciences was a biotechnology company specializing in the development of 3D organotypic tissue culture systems for drug discovery. The company's proprietary OrganDot technology allowed for the creation of miniaturized, functional 3D tissue models, particularly for the central nervous system, to be used in toxicity testing and efficacy studies. By providing more physiologically relevant models than traditional 2D cultures, Capsant aimed to improve the predictive accuracy of preclinical research. The company's platforms were designed to reduce the reliance on animal testing while providing high-throughput capabilities for pharmaceutical partners. Capsant was a spin-out from the University of Southampton and received backing from prominent UK venture investors. In 2011, the company's assets and technology were acquired by InSphero AG, which integrated the OrganDot technology into its portfolio of 3D cell-based assay solutions.
