Capsant Neurotechnologies

Capsant Neurotechnologies was a biotechnology company spun out from the University of Southampton in 2002, specializing in 3D organotypic tissue culture models. The company's proprietary OrganDOT™ technology provided predictive, long-lived "mini-organs" for drug discovery and safety testing, with a primary focus on central nervous system (CNS) disorders such as Alzheimer's and stroke. Capsant offered high-throughput screening services to pharmaceutical and biotech partners, aiming to reduce reliance on animal models. Although the company was dissolved in 2019 following a voluntary liquidation, its core OrganDOT technology was out-licensed and continues to be commercialized by Precision for Medicine for applications in oncology and other therapeutic areas. The platform is recognized for its ability to maintain tissue architecture and cellular heterogeneity over several weeks in vitro.
