Company intelligence / Profile preview
Carbiolice is a French industrial biotechnology and sustainable materials company focused on making PLA-based bioplastics fully biodegradable and compostable. The company developed Evanesto, an enzyme-based additive that can be incorporated into PLA formulations to enable biodegradation under industrial composting, home composting, and methanization conditions. Founded in 2016 as a joint venture among Carbios, the SPI fund managed by Bpifrance, and Limagrain Ingredients, Carbiolice later became wholly owned by Carbios in 2021. Its products are aimed at packaging, food-contact items, agricultural films, and other plastic applications that are difficult to recycle. Although it uses biotechnology and enzymes, it is not a healthcare or therapeutics company; it operates in green chemistry, circular materials, and bioplastics.
