Overview

Carderm Capital is a pharmaceutical intellectual property holding company and a subsidiary of Sanofi. The company was primarily established to hold the patents and New Drug Application (NDA) for Cardizem CD, a controlled-release formulation of diltiazem used to treat hypertension and angina. Carderm Capital is most notable for its involvement in landmark antitrust litigation during the late 1990s and early 2000s concerning "pay-for-delay" agreements with generic manufacturer Andrx Corporation. These agreements were alleged to have illegally delayed the market entry of generic versions of Cardizem CD. Following the acquisition of its parent companies by Aventis and subsequently Sanofi, Carderm Capital has served as a legacy entity for managing cardiovascular IP assets.
