Cardiometrics

Cardiometrics was a pioneering medical technology company that specialized in the development of intravascular sensors and diagnostic systems for interventional cardiology. The company is best known for inventing the Doppler-tipped guidewire (FlowWire) and the pressure-sensing guidewire (WaveWire), which enabled clinicians to perform physiological assessments of coronary artery disease. These technologies allowed for the measurement of Coronary Flow Reserve (CFR) and laid the groundwork for modern Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) techniques used to determine the functional significance of arterial blockages. Cardiometrics was acquired by EndoSonics in 1997, and its core technologies eventually became integral components of the physiology portfolios of Volcano Corporation and subsequently Philips.
