CareGroup Health System

CareGroup Health System was a prominent non-profit healthcare delivery network based in Massachusetts, established in 1996 through the merger of Beth Israel Hospital and New England Deaconess Hospital. The system served as the parent organization for several major medical institutions, most notably the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), a primary teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. CareGroup integrated high-end academic medicine with community-based care through its network of subsidiary hospitals, including Mount Auburn Hospital and New England Baptist Hospital. The organization was a pioneer in healthcare information technology, particularly known for its early development and adoption of electronic health records and clinical informatics. In March 2019, CareGroup merged with Lahey Health and Seacoast Regional Health Systems to form Beth Israel Lahey Health (BILH). This merger created one of the largest integrated healthcare systems in New England, effectively concluding CareGroup's operations as an independent entity.
