Caritas Therapeutics

Caritas Therapeutics was a clinical-stage gene therapy company originally conceived as a spin-off from Amicus Therapeutics through a merger with ARYA Sciences Acquisition Corp IV. The company was established to focus on the development of next-generation genetic medicines for rare metabolic and neurological diseases, utilizing a robust AAV-based platform. Its pipeline was anchored by clinical programs for CLN6 and CLN3 Batten disease, alongside preclinical assets for Fabry and Pompe diseases. A central component of its strategy was a long-term collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania’s Gene Therapy Program, led by Dr. James Wilson. However, in February 2022, the merger agreement was mutually terminated due to unfavorable market conditions, resulting in the reintegration of the gene therapy portfolio back into Amicus Therapeutics. Consequently, Caritas Therapeutics no longer operates as an independent entity.
