The company provided a range of managed care services, including commercial health plans and Medicare Advantage programs, primarily serving the East Tennessee market. In 2008, Cariten was acquired by Humana for approximately $245 million, leading to the integration of its member base into Humana's national network. At the time of its acquisition, it was one of the largest health plans in its region, known for its close ties to local healthcare providers. The company's operations were eventually fully rebranded under the Humana name.
