Carmat has developed Aeson®, a total artificial heart designed as a physiological, hemocompatible solution for patients with advanced biventricular heart failure. The device mimics natural cardiac function using electrohydraulic pumps and biologic membranes. It has demonstrated promising results regarding autoregulation of blood flow and patient quality of life. In Europe, Aeson® holds CE marking as a bridge-to-transplant device; clinical trials are ongoing in the US. Early clinical experience shows successful bridging to transplantation or extended survival without disabling stroke up to at least six months post implant.
