Carmel Biosensors was an Israeli medical device company that developed wearable biosensors intended for continuous monitoring of blood analytes, with an initial focus on glucose sensing for people with diabetes. Its lead product concepts included GlucAlarm, an early-warning patch for impending hypoglycemia, and GlucoGuard, a watch-like continuous glucose monitoring system. The company also described broader applications of its sensor technology for monitoring gases, hormones, drugs, and anesthetic agents. Carmel Biosensors appears to have ceased operations in 2002 after failing to secure additional financing, although its intellectual property remained of interest to investors and industry participants.
