Company intelligence / Profile preview
CaroCure is a Swedish biotechnology company dedicated to the development of first-in-class small molecule inhibitors for the treatment of cancer. The company's core technology targets the MTH1 enzyme (NUDT1), which cancer cells utilize to sanitize the nucleotide pool and prevent lethal DNA damage from oxidative stress. By inhibiting this "non-oncogene addiction" pathway, CaroCure's candidates selectively induce apoptosis in malignant cells while sparing healthy tissue. The company was founded by Professor Thomas Helleday and is based on research conducted at the Karolinska Institutet. Its lead program, Karonudib, has progressed into early-phase clinical trials for various oncology indications.
