Carolina Urologic Research Institute

Carolina Urologic Research Center, commonly abbreviated CURC, is a specialized genitourinary oncology clinical research organization and care-integrated research site in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Founded in 1998 by Neal Shore, MD, it has focused on Phase 1 through Phase 4 drug, biotechnology, and device trials in prostate, bladder, renal, and broader urologic diseases. In March 2025, CURC was acquired by The START Center for Cancer Research and now operates as START Carolinas within START's global oncology site network. The organization combines clinical-trial operations with community urology practice access and investigational capabilities, including early-phase trial infrastructure, pharmacokinetics support, investigational drug services, and regulatory/data-management functions. It is best understood not as a therapeutic product developer, but as a high-volume oncology research site and CRO-style clinical trial operator focused on genitourinary cancers.
