Laboratoires Castaigne was a French pharmaceutical company founded in 1948, primarily focused on cardiovascular research. The company is most famous for discovering and developing ticlopidine, the first thienopyridine antiplatelet agent, which revolutionized the prevention of blood clots and stroke. Castaigne was acquired by Synthelabo in 1970, which eventually merged into Sanofi. The company's legacy is defined by its contribution to the development of major cardiovascular therapies that remain clinically relevant today.
