Cathexis (officially Cathexis Therapeutics) is an Australian biotechnology company dedicated to developing disease-modifying treatments for neurodegenerative disorders, with a primary focus on Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). The company was founded to commercialize the pioneering research of the late Professor Justin Yerbury, whose work identified critical mechanisms in TDP-43 proteinopathy. Cathexis's therapeutic strategy involves the development of small molecules designed to prevent the toxic aggregation and promote the clearance of the TDP-43 protein in motor neurons. By restoring cellular proteostasis, the company aims to slow or halt the progression of ALS and related conditions such as frontotemporal dementia.
