Cebix was a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on developing replacement therapies for the complications of type 1 diabetes. The company's lead product candidate, Ersatta (a long-acting, pegylated synthetic human C-peptide), was designed to treat diabetic peripheral neuropathy by replacing the C-peptide that is deficient in patients with type 1 diabetes. Despite raising significant venture capital and completing a large Phase 2b trial, the company ceased operations in 2015 after the study failed to demonstrate a statistically significant improvement over placebo. Cebix was headquartered in La Jolla, California, and was founded based on research into the physiological role of C-peptide beyond insulin production.
