Cell Genesys

Cell Genesys was a U.S. oncology biotechnology company focused on cancer immunotherapy, oncolytic virus therapy, and gene-based approaches. Its best-known platform was GVAX, a whole-cell, GM-CSF-secreting cancer vaccine technology developed across multiple tumor types, with prostate cancer as its lead program. The company also advanced CG0070, an oncolytic adenovirus program for bladder cancer, and had earlier interests in gene therapy through its former subsidiary Ceregene. After late-stage setbacks in prostate cancer, Cell Genesys restructured substantially in 2008-2009 and was acquired by BioSante Pharmaceuticals in 2009. The company is no longer operating as an independent active biotech.
