Company intelligence / Profile preview
Cell Preservation Solutions (CPS) was a medical technology company based in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, that specialized in advanced cytology and pathology solutions. The company's primary innovation was the Cellient Automated Cell Block System, the first fully automated instrument designed to create cell blocks from liquid-based cytology samples. This system significantly improved the diagnostic yield and consistency of cell blocks, which are critical for performing immunohistochemistry and other molecular tests in cancer diagnosis. By automating the process, CPS helped laboratories reduce manual labor and improve the quality of diagnostic samples. In March 2009, the company was acquired by Hologic, Inc. for approximately $35 million, leading to the integration of its technology into the ThinPrep diagnostic portfolio.
