Company intelligence / Profile preview
Celtrix Pharmaceuticals was a biopharmaceutical company dedicated to developing protein-based therapeutics for tissue repair and degenerative diseases. The company was a leader in the study of the Insulin-like Growth Factor (IGF) system and the Transforming Growth Factor-beta (TGF-beta) superfamily. Its flagship product, SomatoKine, was a complex of recombinant human IGF-I and its natural binding protein, IGFBP-3, aimed at treating severe burns and hip fractures. This complex was designed to improve the safety and efficacy of IGF-I by mimicking its natural state in the bloodstream. In 2000, Celtrix was acquired by Insmed in an all-stock transaction to consolidate their efforts in IGF-related therapies.
