Centelion

Centelion was a biopharmaceutical company established in 2004 as a joint venture between Sanofi-Aventis and Transgene. The company was dedicated to the development and commercialization of gene therapy products, with a primary focus on cardiovascular indications. Its lead product candidate, NV1FGF (tamisermin), was a non-viral plasmid DNA encoding for human fibroblast growth factor 1, intended to treat peripheral arterial disease and critical limb ischemia. Centelion successfully advanced NV1FGF into a large-scale Phase 3 clinical trial known as TAMARIS. However, the trial failed to meet its primary efficacy endpoints in 2010, leading to the discontinuation of the program. Following the clinical setback, the joint venture's operations were integrated into Sanofi, and the entity is no longer active.
