Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology of Camagüey

The Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology of Camagüey (CIGB Camagüey) is a specialized Cuban biotechnology institution dedicated to the research, development, and industrial production of biologicals for human and veterinary health. Established in 1989 as part of the CIGB network under the BioCubaFarma umbrella, the center is a leader in yeast-based recombinant protein expression, particularly using Pichia pastoris. Its flagship products include Gavac, a unique vaccine against cattle ticks, and HeberPAG, an immunotherapy targeting vascular endothelial growth factor for the treatment of advanced solid tumors. The facility maintains high-standard manufacturing capabilities to supply both the Cuban national health system and international markets in Latin America and Asia.
