Overview

The Center for Molecular Medicine and Immunology (CMMI) was a prominent non-profit research organization dedicated to the discovery and development of antibody-based products for cancer detection and therapy. Established in 1983 by Dr. David M. Goldenberg, the center worked in tandem with its clinical arm, the Garden State Cancer Center, to pioneer advancements in radioimmunotherapy and antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). CMMI served as the primary research engine for Immunomedics, developing the foundational intellectual property for blockbuster drugs such as Trodelvy (sacituzumab govitecan). The institute's work focused on targeting specific tumor-associated antigens, including CEA, CD22, and TROP-2. While the center is no longer actively conducting new research following the acquisition of its commercial partner by Gilead Sciences, its legacy remains central to the field of precision oncology.
