Centocor Biotech

Centocor was a pioneering biotechnology company founded in 1979, specializing in the development of monoclonal antibody-based therapeutics. The company is best known for creating blockbuster drugs such as Remicade (infliximab) for inflammatory diseases and ReoPro (abciximab) for cardiovascular conditions. In 1999, Centocor was acquired by Johnson & Johnson in a deal valued at approximately $4.9 billion, marking one of the largest biotech acquisitions at the time. Following the acquisition, it merged with Ortho Biotech to form Centocor Ortho Biotech, which was later rebranded as Janssen Biotech in 2011. Centocor's innovations laid the groundwork for modern immunology treatments and established it as a leader in the biologic drug industry. Today, its legacy continues through the extensive immunology and oncology portfolios of Johnson & Johnson.
