Cerebrus was a specialist UK-based biotechnology company focused on the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for central nervous system (CNS) disorders. Founded in 1996 as a spin-out from the University of Oxford, the company leveraged its expertise in neuroscience to target conditions such as obesity, Parkinson's disease, and anxiety. Its lead programs included 5-HT2C receptor agonists for metabolic disorders and adenosine A2A receptor antagonists for neurodegenerative conditions. In 1999, Cerebrus was acquired by Vanguard Medica to form Vernalis, which significantly expanded its CNS pipeline and drug discovery capabilities.
