Certification Commission for Health Information Technology

The Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) was a prominent non-profit organization dedicated to accelerating the adoption of robust health information technology. Founded in 2004, it established the first comprehensive certification programs for electronic health records (EHRs), focusing on functionality, interoperability, and security standards. CCHIT served as a primary Authorized Testing and Certification Body (ONC-ATCB) for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, playing a critical role in the early stages of the Meaningful Use incentive program. Although it was a leader in the field for a decade, the organization ceased its certification operations in 2014 as the regulatory landscape for health IT evolved.
