Company intelligence / Profile preview
Chalmette Medical Center was a 250-bed acute care hospital located in Chalmette, Louisiana, that served as the primary healthcare provider for St. Bernard Parish. Owned and operated by Universal Health Services (UHS), the facility offered a comprehensive range of medical services, including emergency medicine, intensive care, surgery, and diagnostic imaging. The hospital was a critical infrastructure component for the region until it sustained catastrophic damage and flooding during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Due to the extent of the destruction, the facility never reopened, leading to a significant shift in the local healthcare landscape. Its closure eventually prompted the construction of the St. Bernard Parish Hospital to restore essential medical services to the community.
