Chan-Zuckerberg Foundation

The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) is a philanthropic organization founded by Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan in 2015. Its mission in science is to support the research and technology that will make it possible to cure, prevent, or manage all diseases by the end of the century. CZI operates as a hybrid entity, combining grant-making with direct engineering and scientific research through the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub and the Chan Zuckerberg Institute for Advanced Biological Imaging. The organization is a major supporter of the Human Cell Atlas, an international effort to map every cell type in the human body. Additionally, CZI develops and maintains open-source software tools like Cellxgene and CZ ID to accelerate scientific discovery globally.
