Charter Behavioral Health Systems was once the largest provider of psychiatric and behavioral health services in the United States, operating a vast network of hospitals and treatment centers. The company specialized in inpatient and outpatient mental health services, substance abuse treatment, and specialized programs for children and adolescents. At its peak, it managed approximately 90 facilities across the country. However, the organization faced intense scrutiny in the late 1990s following allegations of patient neglect, safety violations, and insurance fraud. These challenges, coupled with financial instability, led to a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in 2000. The company subsequently liquidated its assets and ceased operations.
