Company intelligence / Profile preview
Chemeq was an Australian biotechnology company that specialized in the development of polymeric antimicrobials for the global animal health market. The company's core technology was a patented antimicrobial polymer designed to treat and prevent intestinal infections in livestock, such as pigs and poultry, without the use of traditional antibiotics. This technology aimed to address the growing concern over antibiotic resistance by providing a non-absorbed, gut-acting alternative. Chemeq constructed a major manufacturing facility in Western Australia and was listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX: CHQ). However, the company suffered from significant cost overruns, regulatory delays, and protracted legal battles with creditors. Chemeq ultimately entered voluntary administration in 2007 and its assets were liquidated.
