Chemiewerk Homburg

Chemiewerk Homburg was a German pharmaceutical company based in Homburg, Saarland, with a history dating back to 1919. The company became a prominent subsidiary of the Degussa Group in 1955, serving as a core part of its pharmaceutical division. It was best known for developing and marketing established brands such as Kamillosan, a chamomile-based anti-inflammatory, and Treupel, a widely used analgesic. In 1987, Chemiewerk Homburg was merged with Asta-Werke to form Asta Medica AG, consolidating Degussa's healthcare interests. Following the dissolution of Asta Medica in the early 2000s, the Homburg production site and product rights were eventually acquired by Madaus and later integrated into Viatris. Today, the legacy of Chemiewerk Homburg persists through its former manufacturing facilities which continue to operate under Viatris.
