Children’s Hospitals’ Solutions for Patient Safety

Children’s Hospitals’ Solutions for Patient Safety (SPS) is a collaborative network of more than 145 children's hospitals across North America dedicated to eliminating serious harm in pediatric healthcare. Established in 2009, the organization focuses on reducing hospital-acquired conditions (HACs), such as infections and falls, and decreasing serious safety events through data transparency and the sharing of best practices. By employing high-reliability concepts and quality improvement science, SPS fosters an "All Teach, All Learn" environment where member institutions collaborate rather than compete on safety. The network has successfully spared over 30,000 children from serious harm and achieved significant healthcare cost savings. SPS continues to expand its mission to include employee and staff safety, aiming for a goal of zero serious harm across all member hospitals.
