Chiron Vision

Chiron Vision was a leading developer and manufacturer of ophthalmic surgical products, primarily focused on cataract and refractive surgery. The company was established as a division of Chiron Corporation through the acquisition of several eye care entities, including IOLAB from Johnson & Johnson in 1994. Its product portfolio featured the Hansatome microkeratome, a pivotal device in the advancement of LASIK surgery, and a variety of intraocular lenses (IOLs). In addition to surgical hardware, the company provided viscoelastic solutions and other pharmaceuticals used during ophthalmic procedures. In December 1997, Bausch & Lomb acquired Chiron Vision for $300 million in cash to strengthen its position in the global surgical market. Following the acquisition, Chiron Vision's operations were integrated into Bausch & Lomb's surgical division.
