Chongqing Kangwei Biotechnology

Chongqing Kangwei Biotechnology (later relocated and renamed Wuhu Kangwei Biotechnology) is a Chinese biopharmaceutical company that achieved a global milestone by developing the world's first oral recombinant Helicobacter pylori vaccine. Founded in 2000 in collaboration with the Third Military Medical University, the company focused on addressing the high prevalence of H. pylori infection in China, which is a major cause of gastritis and gastric cancer. Its lead product, a recombinant UreB/LTB fusion protein vaccine, received a Class 1 New Drug Certificate in China in 2009 following successful Phase 3 trials. However, the company struggled with the industrialization of the vaccine and faced severe financial difficulties, leading to a broken capital chain by 2017. While the original entity remains registered, its core vaccine technology and development efforts have largely transitioned to other industry players like Olymvax and Zhifei Bio.
