Overview

Chromaderm developed a topical formulation of ruboxistaurin (SM-030), an inhibitor of PKC-beta, targeting the root cause of skin hyperpigmentation. A completed Phase 1 clinical trial under a US IND demonstrated that the topical drug can inhibit UV-induced melanin production and showed promising safety and efficacy. Oral ruboxistaurin has been evaluated in other indications up to Phase 3 with an excellent safety profile. The company was acquired by DermBiont in December 2021 to accelerate further development into Phase 2 trials.
