Overview
Ciphergen Biosystems developed and commercialized the ProteinChip System®, a proteomics platform based on SELDI mass spectrometry for protein biomarker discovery. The company enabled significant advances in clinical proteomics and partnered with academic groups to identify diagnostic panels—most notably for ovarian cancer. In late 2006 it sold its life science research instrument business to Bio-Rad Laboratories but retained rights to develop molecular diagnostics using the technology. Its main clinical results included validation of multi-marker panels for early detection of ovarian cancer.
