CLL Pharma

CLL Pharma was a French pharmaceutical research and development company based in the Sophia Antipolis technology park. Founded in 1991 by Dr. Claude Laruelle, the company specialized in the development of innovative drug formulations and therapeutic combinations, primarily focusing on rheumatology, dermatology, and oncology. Its core business strategy involved the "value-added" repositioning of existing molecules through novel delivery systems or synergistic combinations to improve efficacy and patient compliance. One of its most significant contributions was the development of treatments for osteoarthritis, including diacerein-based therapies and avocado/soybean unsaponifiables (ASU). In 2004, CLL Pharma was acquired by Laboratoires Expanscience, which integrated CLL's R&D expertise and pipeline into its own rheumatology and dermo-cosmetics divisions. The company's legacy continues through products like Piascledine, which remain key treatments in the management of joint health.
