Cobra Therapeutics

Cobra Therapeutics was a UK-based biotechnology company that specialized in the development of gene therapies and DNA-based medicines. Founded in 1992 as Therexsys and rebranded in 1998, the company focused on non-viral gene delivery systems and the large-scale production of plasmid DNA for clinical use. In 2002, it merged with ML Laboratories to form Cobra Biomanufacturing, shifting its primary focus toward contract manufacturing services. This entity eventually became Cobra Biologics, a prominent Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) that was acquired by Charles River Laboratories in 2021. The company's legacy remains central to the cell and gene therapy manufacturing infrastructure in the United Kingdom.
