Cogene Ventures

Cogene Ventures, also known as Cogene Biotech Ventures, was a Houston-based venture capital firm that specialized in early-stage investments within the life sciences and biotechnology sectors. Founded in 2000 by the renowned geneticist C. Thomas Caskey, the firm focused on identifying and supporting companies that utilized genomic and proteomic technologies for drug discovery and medical diagnostics. Cogene Ventures managed multiple funds, including Cogene Biotech Ventures Fund and Cogene Biotech Ventures II, and built a portfolio that featured notable companies such as MacroGenics, Athersys, and Targacept. The firm played a significant role in the development of the biotechnology industry in Texas and the Southeastern United States. Cogene Ventures is no longer active, having liquidated its funds and ceased operations.
