CoGenesys was a biopharmaceutical company focused on developing improved versions of existing therapeutic proteins, often referred to as "bio-betters." Spun off from Human Genome Sciences in 2005, the company utilized its proprietary Linker-Enabled Albumin-Dimer (LEAD) technology to extend the half-life and improve the pharmacological properties of biologics. Its pipeline featured long-acting versions of interferon alpha for hepatitis C and granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) for neutropenia. The company's approach aimed to reduce dosing frequency and improve patient compliance across various therapeutic areas. In 2008, CoGenesys was acquired by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries for $400 million, serving as a foundational piece for Teva's global biologics business.
